Phoenix Rising
Join the Phoenix Rising Staff! The Phoenix Rising Newspaper Club will hold its first meeting at 2:55 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, in the Phoenix library. It will be done by 3:40 p.m., so please arrange to have a ride home. All Phoenix students are invited to attend and get more information and/or sign up for the club. If someone is interested, but cannot make the meeting(s), contact Mr. Thom Aiello, the advisor, at thomaiello@gmail.com.
We are hoping to have (mostly) separate meetings from the high school newspaper club this school year. There is already a short list of story ideas, but we really would like your ideas as well!
Email Mr. Aiello if you have any questions in advance, or if you can confirm if you will be able to attend or not.
Students who are involved in DDHS FFA!
If you need a permission slip for the upcoming events that Mr. Speth has e-mailed you about, please stop by the office and pick one up!
Hispanic Heritage Month
This past Saturday, September 15, Hispanic Heritage Month began and lasts until Oct. 15. Five Latin American countries celebrated their independence as well this weekend. It was in 1988 that our government set aside Sept. 15-Oct.15 as National Hispanic Heritage Month to honor the many contributions Hispanic Americans have made and continue to make in our nation.
During this month there will be weekly trivia questions. Questions are posted in each commons and once you have the answer you need to write it on a piece of paper, with your first and last name. You can either give it to Mrs. Prado or the office for a chance to win a gift card to Los Agaves!!
Listen carefully to this week’s question:
Which Puerto Rican woman was nominated by President Obama on May 26, 2009 to become the first Latina Supreme Court Justice in U.S history?
