Basketball Teams collecting for Comet Care Centers
The Delavan-Darien High School Comets boys basketball teams are holding a collection drive to support the Delavan-Darien High School Comet Care Center needs.
The DDHS Comet Care Center is a resource center housed in the high school to provide items to those students who have an essential need that perhaps their family cannot afford or provide, typically due to financial hardships.
Student services personnel work with the students to determine eligibility for resources. Toiletries, personal items and clothing distributed through the Comet Care Center are provided totally through donations.
The Freshman, Junior Varsity and Varsity teams all worked together to determine collection locations, produce bright colored boxes wrapped in school colors of blue and gold and delivered the collection boxes to the locations supporting the drive.
The team will continue to pick up the donations, sort and inventory them and deliver to the Comet Care Center.
ITEMS NEEDED:
Toiletries needed are full size shampoo and conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, boys and girls deodorant, pads/tampons, hairbrushes, combs, hair ties and body wash. New and gently used clothing items are needed in sizes small to 3XL. New clothing needs are any size men and women’s underwear, women’s socks, sweatpants and winter hats and gloves. New and gently used clothing accepted are jeans, sweatshirts, jackets, sweaters and winter coats in sizes small to 3XL. Any additional items collected for used by younger students will be delivered to the Elementary and Middle School Comet Care Center located at Phoenix Middle School.

The collection drive will run from now through January 2018. Collection boxes are available at:

- Shopko
- BMO Harris Bank
- Town Bank
- Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with School (January only)
- Delavan-Darien High School Main Office
- AlliMcB’s Hair Salon
- Darien Public Library
