IMAGE: STEAM Summer Camp for girls from 2016.A summer Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) Camp is coming back this summer for Delavan-Darien girls currently in grades 6-8 (for the 2016-17 school year).

The week-long camp will take place at Delavan-Darien High School in the Fab Lab and technology wing of the building, and will run from 8:30-11 a.m. daily from June 12 through June 16.

The camp is open to both public and private school students living within Delavan-Darien School District boundaries.

The course will have two levels — introductory, for students who did not participate in the camp last summer, and advanced, for returning STEAM Camp campers.

Staff will include personnel from Technology, Science, Math, Art and Family and Consumer Sciences departments at DDHS.  Several DDHS  students will also serve as volunteer mentors.

The camp will introduce activities and technology that directly connect to the STEAM curriculum, all in an effort to get more girls interested in STEAM-related courses.

Project-based activities using a variety of materials and state-of-the-art tools will provide hands-on experience in the areas of computer programs, CNC, drafting, woods, metals and plastics.

Students will use the drafting lab to experience the creation and development of products they can personally use. Students will work in teams to develop collaboration skills to help them with their own personality. Students will keep all ideas, design materials, time schedules and explanations in an engineering notebook.  Students will also be exposed to Career Cruising and participate in a field trip to a local business that closely relates to their potential STEAM career pathway.

For more information, click on the Phoenix Middle School Summer School course guide (ENGLISH or SPANISH) on our Summer School Website.

The required registration form is located within the course guide packets.

Registration is due by May 12, and the camp is open to the first 30 campers who sign-up.

Call DDHS Technology Education teacher Mike Fellin for more information: mfellin@ddschools.org or 262-233-6656.
