NEWSPAPER CLUB MEETS THURSDAY; NEW MEMBERS STILL SOUGHT: The revived Cometeer Newspaper Club will meet this Thursday (Jan. 18) from 2:50 p.m.-3:40 p.m. at the Phoenix Middle School library. Please note the change in meeting time and arrange for a ride home. This is a make-up meeting of last week’s weather-related postponement. New members are still being sought; especially needed is someone to write about sports! Come to get more information or contact the club advisor, Mr. Aiello, at thomaiello@gmail.com If you are interested in the newspaper club, but cannot attend the meeting(s), contact Mr. Aiello by email. There are plenty of options. This is your chance to be heard in your school. Meetings are generally every other Thursday.

All students are required to attend school on Wednesday and Thursday exams days, for the entire day. If a student has a study hall, they should report to their assigned study hall as usual. Students that have earned exemptions may report to one of the three options AFTER checking into their classroom for attendance:

1 – Learning Commons Study Hall – Quiet Study Hall

2 – Cafeteria – quiet chatting, working on Chromebooks

3 – East Gym – exercise, shoot hoops, socialize

Students who are not able to take an exam on Wednesday or Thursday must make arrangements to make up the exam on Friday, January 19 at the 7:30 or 9:14 time period.

Attention Students: How does a FREE education with Gateway Technical College sound? Sign up in Student Services or send an email to DuranM@gtc.edu to attend an informational meeting at DDHS on Thursday, January 25 and see if you qualify for the Gateway Promise program.

Attention Juniors & Seniors: An Admissions Representative from Madison Area Technical College, WI will be visiting D.D.H.S. on Wednesday, January 24th from 1:30 – 2:30 in the Student Services conference room. Please stop in to Student Services to sign up. You must have your teacher’s permission to attend. *Please note that the Student Services conference room in now Room #121

Attention Seniors:  Students planning to attend college next Fall or Spring, who wish to receive financial aid, are recommended to complete a FAFSA form.  If you have not, a workshop is being provided on January 25th in the D-DHS Learning Commons to offer support. The session will facilitate form completion and submission online. Please note that a parent/guardian may need to be present to complete a FAFSA form. FAFSA Lab:  January 25th, 2:45-4:00 PM. The sign up form is located in Student Services.

ASVAB: The ASVAB is also known as Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery.  The ASVAB isn’t just for students entering the military; it is one of the most widely used multiple-aptitude test battery in the world.  It gives students an opportunity to identify, understand and organize information about their skills, interests and work-related values. The test lasts about 3 hours.  We have study materials in Student Services if you are interested in preparing, especially those aiming for a career in the military.  Date:  Wednesday, February 7th, 2018 Time/Place:  7:45am/High School For:  Any 10th – 12th graders Sign up in Student Services by February 1st.

Community Service Opportunity: Turtle Creek is looking for babysitters during their conferences on Tuesday, February 13th from 5:15pm – 6:45pm.  If interested sign up in Student Services. 

Attention all students 9th-12th grade: There will be two more opportunities to take the free ACT practice tests on Saturday January 27 & February 17 in the large group room from 8am 1pm.  Sign up in student services no later than the Thursday prior to the tests.  See Ms. Ortiz if you have any questions.

Attention Students: Community Service Opportunity: You would greet visitors, answer questions about the train show and the city, hole punch visitors cards, and other various tasks. The Delavan Train Show is looking for volunteers. Dates: Saturday, March 10 from 8am-4pm and Sunday, March 11th from 9am-4pm.Sign up in Student Services.

Turtle Creek CLC has a job opening available for tutoring. You must be 18 years of age.  We are looking for staff M-F 3:30-5:30 and the pay is $10 an hour.  Please contact Mrs. Minton if you are interested Rm #149/151 or (mminton@ddschools.org).

Monterey Mills: We are a premier supplier of knitted pile fabric to the paint roller industry. We are looking for full-time or part-time workers starting now and going into summer internships.  Employees start at 10.50 an hour and if they are full-time, they will go to $12.75 after 60 days of good attendance.
